2018. Timber, acrylic, steel.
When artists exhibit in galleries it often presents a balancing act between the artists intentions and the limitations of the gallery. The interests and visions of the two parties often contrast, creating a difficult relationship. Art Galleries often take up to 50% commission when selling artworks. This causes artists to question the worth of their work and makes putting a price on their pieces a difficult task. 50% confronts the gallery by cutting the space in half, mirroring these concerns, and creating a physical restriction within the gallery itself. In doing this, 50% also impedes it's own ability to fully function.
